This technique is Mokume gane. This is a traditional Japanese blacksmithing technique similar to Damascus steel. Alternating colors of metal are forge welded together to form a stack or billet. I manipulate the billet by hammering, twisting, gouging or filing to bring forth the patterns. Each pattern is unique due the random nature of the process.
